Three people were treated by paramedics after a builiding fire broken out in the Rookery, Kidsgrove in the early hours of Saturday morning. The building fire which happened around 3.45am, led to Newchapel Road, close to the junction with High Street being closed off for a short period of time.
West Midlands Ambulence Service said "Ambulance crews were first on the scene at the fire. A male and female in their twenties managed to escape the premises. They were treated at the scene by ambulance crews.
"A female in her fifties was led to safety by ambulance crews and treated for smoke inhalation. The patient was conveyed to the University Hospital North Staffordshire for further assessment and treatment."
Kidsgrove Youth Parliament members are campaigning and fund raising for improvements to the current Skate Park at Birchenwood, in Kidsgrove. It has been reported in The Sentinel that the Kidsgrove Skate Park, found opposite Stone Bank Stores, could be improved if members of the Kidsgrove Youth Parliament get the go ahead.
Kidsgrove Councillor David Stringer commented in The Sentinel suggesting that the Kidsgrove Youth Parliament had put a lot of work into this project and they had been looking in to various different options to raise the finance to make this project viable. He went on to suggest that the Kidsgrove Youth Parliament was set up for these very purposes to give young people in Kidsgrove a say on what is done for them.
The Kidsgrove Skate Park has been at the centre of controversy in the past with many Kidsgrove residents opposing the installation of the original park in Kidsgrove. It will be interesting to learn how Kidsgrove residents will respond to these new plans to improve the Skate Park.
Any improvements would require planning permission to be passed from Newcastle Borough Council, which Kidsgrove Councillor Kyle Robbinson appears to support. It is fair to expect any planning application to be passed now that Labour control Newcastle Borough Council.
Kidsgrove Councillor David Stringer informed us that one of the first Kidsgrove Youth Parliament projects was fast coming to fruition. The Kidsgrove Youth Parliament members are to set about removing the distasteful graffiti from the area around the Harecastle Tunnel in Kidsgrove.
The costs of this project will be small and as yet may not cost the Kidsgrove Youth Parliament any funds, something which I’m sure many Kidsgrove residents will be pleased to learn. Any costs which are incurred from this project will be taken directly from the Kidsgrove Youth Parliament’s own funds.
It is pleasing to learn that the Kidsgrove Youth Parliament is actually setting about improving the Kidsgrove area. Hopefully this project will now be well under way we were provided this information in April and the Editor misplaced this article until finding it today.
Kidsgrove County Councillor Mary Maxfield has commented to say that she has taken phone calls this evening from residents living on Whitehill Road that an accident took place at 7pm this evening.
It is believed that the collision took place on the narrow part of Whitehill Road, which was between a car and a motor cycle. There are reports that the Police and Ambulance attended the scene. We sincerely hope that no one is seriously injured in this accident, which is the first serious one which we have heard about on Whitehill Road.
No further details on this are currently available.
The Friends of Kidsgrove Train Station group was formed 3 years ago to regenerate the gardens which were laid out many years ago at Kidsgrove Train Station, however left to decline. The Group consists of 7 senior citizens who spend many hours gardening and planting floral displays and shrubs. In memory of the founder of the garden (deceased last year) a rose garden and shrubs were planted. East Midlands Trains, Kidsgrove Rotary Club, Tesco, SCC, Clough Hall Residents' Association and others have kindly donated funds for the project. Last year they were awarded 3rd prize for community gardens in NBC Britain in Bloom.
However the past few weeks Kidsgrove Rail Station has seen damage caused to the gardens, with the theft of plants and litter left lying around for others to tidy up. This is clearly upsetting for the Friends of Kidsgrove Station group who donate their own time and work hard on this project, whilst also not a good advert for Kidsgrove with the many commuters who will pass through the town on the train network.
It is hoped that such damage will now stop as the flowers have little value to others, yet to Kidsgrove town have a great amount of worth in promoting and making Kidsgrove look appealing.
