Bus Service Changes PDF Print E-mail

First Bus Stoke-on-TrentBUS operator First is bringing in changes for its 6 service in a bid to make it more reliable. The route is being split into half so that users will now only be able to travel to Hanley and then will need to swap at the bus station to get another bus into the southern half of the City.

First Bus claim that currently the route is too big to operate successfully when traffic becomes and issue, so as a result these changes should make the bus travel more reliable in the area. It does appear that on the whole most residents in Kidsgrove have been impressed with the service that 6 has offered and are surprised that changes have been made.

The clear losers in these changes are people who may travel from Kidsgrove to South of the City of Stoke-on-Trent and students who use the 6th Form College in Stoke. This will now mean that they will need two tickets or to purchase a more expensive multi trip ticket.

The changes to the service happen on September the 6th. If you need more information or require a timetable please contact Travelline on 0871 2002233.

Councillor Kyle Taylor cleared of assult charge PDF Print E-mail

k_taylorA TEENAGE councillor has walked free from court after being cleared ofassault.

Kyle Taylor had been accused of assaulting a teenage girl at Stoke Station on the evening of April 25, just days before he won the electionfor Newcastle Borough Council's Kidsgrove ward for the Labour Party. But the 18-year-old, pictured, was yesterday found not guilty of commonassault following a trial at North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court.

The prosecution alleged that Mr Taylor had carried out the assault while travelling home by train. Officers from the British Transport Police were called to the incident, and the court was told the alleged victim reported a sustained assault against her, both on the train and in the station.

The court was told she said Mr Taylor had pushed her into a wall on thetrain, hit her in the face with a mobile phone, pushed her to the groundand kicked her. But the girl later asked to retract this statement, and when called to give evidence in court yesterday, she denied any assault had takenplace.

She also denied that Mr Taylor had threatened to attack her if shecomplained about his behaviour. She said: "He didn't threaten me at any time. He is a respected memberof the public. He's a councillor. Why would he say something like that?"The teenager said she had been drunk, having consumed three cans ofcider and an alcopop.

Sue Hayers, prosecuting, put it to the teenager that the original statement was an accurate description of events, but she denied evenmaking the statement. Robin Lichfield, defending, said the witness had been very tired when she had been speaking to the police, and so her statement could not berelied upon. He said: "She had been on a long journey home. She had been drinking, and she was upset. She had fallen asleep when officers were drafting thef inal statement." But PC Karl Harvey, who took the statement, insisted that the witnesshad been coherent and fully aware of what was she was saying. The prosecution also relied on CCTV footage and evidence from twowitnesses at the station.

Kidsgrove Elects Labour Accused Candidate PDF Print E-mail

Kidsgrove is waking up to a new face and party representing it on Newcastle Borough Council following the latest Newcastle Borough Elections.

Kyle-Noel Taylor the Labour suspended member, after the accusations in the media regarding the assault has taken the formally held seat of Mary Maxfield of the Liberal Democrats. Mary Maxfield decided to stand down this time from Newcastle Borough Council after serving the area so well and making a real difference to the lives of many local residents. No one can question the work that has been done in the local area under the Liberal Democrat control and our new elected member Kyle-Noel Taylor has a big job to live up to.

Kyle-Noel Taylor won with 1068 votes compared to Adrian Rhodes of the Lib Dems who polled 968 votes. The conservatives and UKIP made up the remaining places. This vote probably reflected the vote of many people in the national election, despite the fact that people need to focus on local issues when voting in local elections.

18 year old Kyle-Noel Taylor, supported by Margorate Astle has a chequered election past. He has been accused of making liable and slanderous comments about other candidates, arrested for assault at Stoke train station as well demonstrating the use of fowl language.

When commenting on his success at the election Kyle-Noel Taylor remarked, "I've Bloody won the election!! ME! WON IT!" and on the reporting of the assault charge "Made it onto page two of @SentinelNews with my tweet today. Downgraded from front page on Monday! They should give me a column".

If you contact Kyle-Noel Taylor, please find his contact details below;

We are sad to inform residents that Mary Maxfield is standing down from her role on Newcastle Borough Council to enable her to spend more time with her family. Bad weather affects waste and recycling PDF Print E-mail
Adverse weather will affect waste and recycling services across the borough.

Collection crews for the kerbside recycling and refuse services are unable to access some roads and properties due to the recent snowfall and icy conditions.

If your recycling or waste is not picked up by 5pm, please save it for your next scheduled collection date when it will be collected along with any extra recycling and waste.

David Adams, Executive Director for Operational Services, said: "The borough council apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their patience and understanding.

"At the moment, collection vehicles are managing to access main roads but are unable to grip on icy side roads and estates.

“We hope to get collections back to normal next week but with the weather forecast, we will have to assess the situation on a daily basis.”

The freezing weather is expected to continue, causing severe frost and ice.

Updates are available first thing every weekday morning from the borough council’s website.

Please remember that the borough council does not operate refuse collections on Mondays.

Staffordshire only gritting A and B Roads as salt runs out PDF Print E-mail

Staffordshire County Council's highways gritting teams will be adapting their anti freeze operations from tonight to keep the road network on the move - despite the national shortage of salt supplies.

The decision has been made to grit A and B roads only in order to save on valuable salt reserves.

Dedicated teams will continue to brave the weather to spread salt by hand in 'critical' places including around hospitals and GP surgeries and in town centres.

The move comes after many weeks in which Staffordshire has bucked the trend amongst highways authorities and carried on gritting 43% of the network. This service is much higher than the national figure, even in normal times.

County Councillor Mike Maryon, Cabinet member for Highways, said: "The gritting teams have been working extremely hard to keep Staffordshire on the move despite the national salt shortage.

Staffordshire County Council Salt Expenditure PDF Print E-mail

The BBC has conducted some research under the FOI act to obtain the costs which councils are paying for salt from their suppliers which is used to grit the roads. The findings of this report made interesting reading as a UK but also raises more worrying questions if you are a resident in Staffordshire.

The BBC established that there were 3 major suppliers to all the UK councils based in different parts of the UK. We in Staffordshire naturally have a contract with South Cheshire based the Salt Union. Despite this local based supplier Staffordshire County Council is spending one of the largest amounts of tax payers money on salt in the whole of the UK.

Bathpool Park Revival PDF Print E-mail

20082009002.jpgIt appears that Bath Pool park in Kidsgrove is going though what can only be described as a bit of a revival. After years of neglect the once famed park (for all the wrong reasons) in Kidsgrove, Staffordshire has seen a vast amount of money spent on improving the area.

There is a new park for children to play on, football / basket ball courts, tarmac footpath, street lighting, litter bins and the new popular addition which seems to have many residents talking is the provision of fitness machines.

Bath Pool is certainly a place that I would recommend visiting, however if it is as popular as the day I visited then expect to be waiting a while for a car parking space on the site.

Plough Inn to Re-open in Kidsgrove PDF Print E-mail

plough.jpgWe can exclusively inform you that the Plough Inn on Liverpool Road, Kidsgrove is to re-open later on this year. Some residents will have noticed the work which has been taking place there, however this is in preperation for the re-opening.

Mary Maxfield has informed Whitehill Online that the new owners will be Mandy and Ian Maxfield with the pub being a free house and family focused.

We will keep you informed on developments on this exciting piece of news for Kidsgrove.

On a sader note we are lead to believe that Brennans Pub will soon be turned into housing as planning permission has been granted for this work to take place. This will at least improve the visual look of the area, even if it sadly will mean the loss of one local pub forever.

Kidsgrove Toilets to Close? PDF Print E-mail

publictoilets.jpgIt is being reported in this evenings Sentinel that Newcastle Borough Council are considering closing many of the public toilets which operate across the area. This would clearly have implications for the toilets which are found in the local area. We have 2 toilets in Kidsgrove town centre as well as one in Butt Lane which all could be involved in these cuts.

Newcastle Borough Council leader Simon Tagg has singled out Kidsgrove in his comments to the Sentinel saying "In Kidsgrove you can have two public toilets within a few hundred yards of each other.", something that I think it is fair to assume means that Kidsgorve can expect to see at least one of its public toilets closing. I think it would be interesting to see the usage figures for all the toilets in the borough before the council makes any decision, however this will be unlikely as the council has already budgeted for the cuts.

The proposal suggests that alternative venues within public buildings could be used, so in Kidsgrove town centre it is fair to assume the Library and the soon to open 1 Stop Shop will the chosen venue should you need to use a public toilet.

Town, Borough and County Councillor has told Whitehill Online that the current plan is to close the toilet in Liverpool Road and then refurbish the toilets in Hethcoate Street. The Liverpool Road toilets will be replaced when the new One Stop Shop opens in the Kidsgrove Town Hall, providing better facilities all round.
